Birthday party

May 30th, 2011

We had Emerson and Nigel’s birthday party this weekend.  We invited some of her friends from daycare and had a huge amount of fun.  She wanted to have a space theme, so  I made a rocket ship cake, and my sister decorated the cupcakes with little stars.  She really is a genius when it comes to that stuff.

The weather was beautiful!  All the children had a fun time.

For the party favor, all the children (and a few adults) left with these shooting stars.  In the craziness of the party, I didn’t get any pictures of these…but they were a big hit!

We put a request on the invitation asking for no gifts…we feel it is important for Emerson and Nigel to appreciate these types of occasions without the accompaning materialism.   However, close family got them gifts which are appreciated.  I created a rocket ship based on this pattern, but I didn’t have the actual patter, so I sort of did it from memory.  Mine is a lot FATTER and not as tall…but still cute.  Instead of the hole, I put a small felt pocket on the back for the astronauts (peg people).  My husband made her walking blocks from tree limbs.

It was a lovely day!

I can’t believe Emerson turned 4 and Nigel turned 1.

Just in time for Nigel’s Birthday

May 24th, 2011

Last August, I commisioned the very talented Jessica of Crazy Mama Productions to make Nigel’s name banner for his room.  She made Emerson’s banner a few years back, and we were so pleased with it, I knew that I wanted one for Nigel too.

I really enjoy working with Jessica.  She is very accomodating, flexible, and tries really hard to please you.  Her work is absolutely beautiful.  I highly recommend her.

This is the snap she took.  She is shipping it out, and I’ll have it in time for Nigel’s birthday party this weekend.  I can’t believe he is already 1!

TED Talk : Sir Ken Robinson

April 20th, 2011

There are many times when Waldorf education and mainstream educational ideas cross.  This is one of those times.

Sir Ken Robinson’s first talk was in 2006 at the Ted Conference.

This follow up talk was in 2010

How will we garner the strength to do what is necessary!

Happy Birthday, little one.
